She always loved showing off those great grandbabies. Most of all she treasured the time she shared with her family. Laverna loved to play 42 and dominos at the VFW every Tuesday and Friday not sure, but I bet she just needed the peace and quite time away from Willie. They also loved taking bus trips to Louisiana to gamble. When their second grandchild was born they were in Greece, they received a telegram with the news. She didn't really care for the country life, so they purchased a home in the city limits of Caldwell. In 1966 they bought WL Ranch, a 500 acre farm. She loved skinning the mules for the Thunder Bucket trail rides with her mother beside her in the wagon. Laverna along with her husband owned and operated Willie's Ice House and later opened Willies Café both in Houston, where she was nicknamed Mrs. She was a member of the Elizabeth Lutheran Church of Caldwell, the Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Post # 4458, and the Disabled American Veterans. Our family was blessed to have such a strong, compassionate, loving mother. She was always there to babysit, help at soccer camps, care for the sick and whatever else was needed. When her children were young she served as their troop leader. She was a proud mother of five children, five grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. She was a devoted housewife to an Army Air Force man in World War II. Laverna was united in marriage to her husband of 70 years, Willie Otto Flentge, on January 31, 1939, in Franklin, LA. Laverna was born Septemto Edward and Frieda (Knueppel) Sommerfield in Ganada, Texas. Honorary pallbearers will be Kimberly Ford, her special caregiver and all of the nurses from Texas Home Health of Brenham and Texas Home Health Hospice College Station. Pallbearers will be Zachary McAuley, Blake Janes, Bonnie Charping, Jimmy Sommerfield, David Storm, Pat Baily and Mark Bentke. Flentge passed away peacefully at her home August 18, 2012. Kathleen was born August 18th, 1938 to Eugene and Kathryn (nee Thorpe) Suprise of Bear Creek, WI. Survived by two brothers Lyle and Pat and one sister Karen. Great-grandmother of Donovan and Madilyn McNichols. Cherished grandmother of Steven (Vida) McNichols, Michelle (Jesse) Vidor, Kacey, Michael, and Patrick McKenna. Beloved mother of Christine (Paul) Little, Patty (Kevin) McNichols, and Carrie (Scott) McKenna (CPD). She was preceded in death by her loving husband John, her parents, and three brothers Wayne, Jay, and Tom, and one sister Mary. Markiewicz (Marks) Age 81 passed away quietly at home on November 8th, 2019 with her daughters by her side.
